Project Cell Mary Chapter 1 : Waking up // Whiplash (2)

He took showers and did his business when he could. And with another Buddhist prayer at 6, that’s the whole day. Sometime he talk[ed] to his cell mates about how they got here. The only thing breaking the monotonous routine was when they brought him to cut his hai[r], taking away the last of individuality he got left. After a week-long disease control, which obviously did nothing, was over, he then went to new designated section.

People were arranged according to their sentences, how long, how severe, on-going trial and etc. In prison, people are just numbers. Contary to a school where you are judged based on how well you do and maybe factoring in your personality, here you are classified based on how bad your case were. When Ruj got to Section 5, for those with less than 2-years-sentence, it took a bit more effort getting settled in. Bigger cells, more people, new routine, the difference was that he will be spending longer of a time here. Came the whiplash in a form of what seemed to be dust fever, it was never verified, of course.

It took him 2 days to get medicated, which was on the faster side, and another full week to recover. This week-long fever was also a reason why this part of the ‘log’ took so long to finish.

Now that the fever had passed and had settled down, the whiplash that may have started since the first night was finally over. Next things on his list would be to get a way to contact people outside and find his new routine, which were the things he had been trying in the background during all of this. (July 22 – August 8, 2026)

I’m fortunated enough to get to study how American high schooler study ‘English’. One of the lesson that stick to me is how to look at media through ‘lens’. Without this lesson, I wouldn’t think to compare getting stuck in space to going to prison, since I wouldn’t look at PHM with a political prisoner’s lens. And the more I look the more similarities or ironically polar opposites I found. This writing may just be my own self-indulgence but I do hope it gives readers a perspective they’ve never looked from before. Please do bare with possible misspellings and gramatical errors.
