Political detainees held in detention during investigation or pending trial in mid-2021

Between August 2021 and 5 March 2022, at least 29 individuals were detained during police investigation or pending trial which stemmed from their exercise of the right to political assembly and expression.

Name, date of temporary release, and duration of detention

  • Chitipat was granted bail on 23 November 2021 with conditions, including wearing electronic monitoring (EM) and not leaving house, after held in detention for 68 days. He was detained during police investigation on 17 September 2021 in a case of 16 September 2021 rally at Din Daeng .
  • On 1 December 2021, Panusaya Sitthijirawattanakul was granted bail in four lèse-majesté cases – 19Sep.20Rally, 2Dec.20Rally, WearingCropTopatParagon, and AyutthayaWillNotTolerate – after being held in detention for 17 days between 15 November and 1 December 2021. The bail is granted until 12 January 2022 with five conditions.
  • On 8 December 2021, Yuranan was granted bail in a case of alleged throwing bomb-like material under Din Dang toll on 17 October 2021 after being detained since 22 October 2021, totaling 48 days. His bail includes 50,000 baht as a bail bond with a condition not to participate in any violent-involved rally.
  • On 9 December 2021, Jakree, James (alias), Pipat, Anan, and Narongsak who were accused of being members of Thalu Gas group, received bails after being detained during police investigation for 48 days except Jakree. Jakree was detained for 84 days. The temporary release was the result of the expiration of the detention period without indictment.
  • On 22 December 2021, Theeramet received bail in a case of alleged throwing bomb towards Phayathai Police Booth on 28 September 2021, after being detained for 48 days.The temporary release was the result of the expiration of the detention period without indictment.
  • On 31 December 2021, Kachen and Kajornsak received bail in a case of alleged throwing bomb towards Phayathai Police Booth on 30 September 2021. They were detained for 85 days since 8 October 2021.
  • Tha, a 13-year-old minor whose prosecution stemmed from 6 October 2021 rally, was granted bail on 8 December 2021 for the second time after being detained on 19 November 2021 at Ban Pranee Juvenile Vacational Training Center For Girls. Tha was detained for 20 days in total.
  • On 14 January 2022, Benja Apan was granted bail under certain conditions and in a certain period of time. Benja was detained pending trial in two lèse-majesté cases – 10 Aug. 21 CarMob and a rally in front of the German Embassy. She was detained for 99 days since 8 October 2021.
  • On 13 January 2022, Saharat, who was accused of throwing firework – firecrackers-bomb at Rama IV road after an equal marriage rally, was granted bail after being detained during police investigation since 29 November 2021, totaling 46 days of detention.
  • On 27 January 2022, Pichai and Naruebet, who were accused of throwing bomb-liked materials towards the Lumpini Park Police officers on 4 October 2021, were granted bail after being detained since 5 October 2021, totaling 115 days of detention.
  • On 2 February 2022, Sam Samat was granted bail after being detained during police investigation since 30 October 2021, totaling 96 days of detention.
  • On 4 February 2022, Songpol Sonthirak, Nawapol Tonngam, Peerapong Permpool, Pawarit Yamying, and Wachirawit Limthanawong, who were member of Thalu Fah, were granted bail on 4 February 2022 after having their previous bail in a case of splattering painted color on Tung Song Hong police station on 3 August 2021 revoked. Thy were detained pending trial for 15 days since 21 January 2022. For Wirocha Chatchawalwong was granted bail on 22 January 2022, totaling 2 days of detention.
  • On 10 February 2022, “Pai” Jatupat Boonpattararaksa was granted bail in four cases, including one lèse-majesté case – 19Sep.20Rally, splattering painted color on Tung Song Hong police station on 3 August 2021, splattering color on the Royal Thai Police Headquarter on 18 November 2020, and Esarn rally on 13 October 2020. He was detained pending trial for 186 days since 9 August 2021.
  • On 11 February 2022, “Mike” Panupong Jadnok was granted bail after being detained since 23 September 2021, totaling 142 days of detention.
  • On 14 February 2022, Nut, a 16-year-old minor who was prosecuted in 8 cases of being accused of pounding and burning traffic lights at various sites, was granted bail after being detained for 144 days since 25 September 2021.
  • On 15 February 2022, Theerapat and Pathakan, who were accused of throwing bomb towards the police car at Din Dang after 31 Oct. 21 rally., were granted bail after being detained during police investigation for 84 days without the indictment proceeded by public prosecutor. They were detained since 24 November 2021.
  • On 24 February 2022, “Penguin” Parit Chiwarak was granted bail after being detained for 200 days since 9 August 2021.
  • On 28 February 2022, Arnon Nampat was granted bail after being detained for 202 days since 11 August 2021.
  • On 1 March 2022, Paitoon and Suksan, who were accused of throwing bomb towards the riot police at Din Dang on 11 September 2021 injuring the police severely, were granted bail after being detained since 2 October 2021, totaling 151 days of detention.
  • On 4 March 2022, Jittakorn, who was accused of processing bomb-liked material on 6 October 2021, was granted bail after being detained since 7 October 2021, totaling 149 days.
  • On 4 March 2022, Tawee Tiangwiset, a member of Thalufah, was granted bail in two cases – splattering painted color on Tung Song Hong police station on 3 August 2021 and violent resisting an official and escape the arrest. On 5 March 2022, he was granted bail in the other case which is 15Apr.21Rally. He was temporarily released after being detained for 171 days since 15 September 2021
